Performance Indirect from today’s Lam Lighting

Why Indirect?

Indirect light sources are used to illuminate surfaces and accent architectural features within a space. Illuminated surfaces, such as ceilings and walls, appear to glow and wash the space with soft ambient light. Bright light sources are eliminated from the field of view, eliminating glare and harsh shadows. Properly applied indirect lighting has been shown to enhance a feeling of well being and increase the performance of the occupants of a space.

What is Performance Indirect?

Start with a high performance reflector system. Fixture efficiency combined with proper light distribution exiting the fixture equals high performance. High performance allows the lighting specifier to properly address the lighting issues of today.

What are today’s lighting issues?

Energy Codes
Strict energy codes such as ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 and California Title 24 limit the power usage from lighting systems in a given space. High performance lighting is essential in minimizing the power usage in a space while allowing the specifier to design to recommended practice.

Design to recommended practice
Do the strict energy codes conflict with the ability to design to recommended practice? Not with Lam Performance Indirect products. Design to recommended foot-candle levels; achieve proper work plane and ceiling uniformity and meet energy codes. Each Lam product brochure has examples showing how to achieve this.

LEED certification
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System ® is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. Compliance with building codes is a prerequisite for LEED certification. Exceeding the energy code can generate credits or points that can increase the LEED certification level. Lam offers an array of advanced technologies, highly efficient lamps and ballasts in our luminaires, coupled with precision engineered reflector systems to provide you with high performance energy efficient lighting systems for sustainable building design.

Human Performance
“Studies show that ergonomic lighting can have positive effects such as improved productivity, reduced health complaints and increased occupant satisfaction.” (Light Right Consortium Research Project: Albany, NY). Lam’s indirect lighting systems provide even, diffuse and glare-free illumination. Personal control of the individual workspace can be achieved with today’s DALI technology. Lam’s Choices product allows constant even ceiling illumination and individual downlight control.

Lighting the Electronic Office
In today’s electronic office, computers abound. Direct lighting can cause veiling reflections and direct too much light on computer video display terminals, causing eye strain and reducing human performance. Lam indirect lighting systems eliminate direct light on the screen and greatly reduce veiling reflections, which minimizes eye strain and increases human performance.

The Aging Eye
Visual comfort is especially important in regard to the aging eye. As the “Baby Boomer” generation gets older, an increasing percentage of the workforce gets older. Not only do older adults need more light to work than younger people, but due to physical changes in their visual system, they are more susceptible to glare. Providing glare-free lighting with Lam performance indirect products creates an environment more conducive to comfort and productivity for older workers.
